Ellizabeth Ellis – Concert and Workshop

It was a rare and special treat to have Elizabeth Ellis, a renowned national storyteller, present a story concert in Santa Rosa, CA on February 26th. Katy Mangan, Do Tell Story Swap co-leader, hosted a large group of listeners for the concert, and the venue offered a lovely intimate setting for Elizabeth’s stories.

Elizabeth’s stories were amusing and poignant, from buying roses at Walmart on Valentine’s Day to accompanying her grandfather as he preached to four different congregations on Sundays. These stories, told in Elizabeth’s sweet Texas drawl and accented by the down home Kentucky twang of her forebears, are true national treasures of times and people we will only know through storytelling.

Martha Shogren presented Elizabeth a lovely quilted panel she created with a story theme. Martha’s work is coveted by all, so Elizabeth understandably told us she had a prominent place in her home for this treasure.

After the concert, the rest of Elizabeth’s weekend was spent leading an intensive and intimate weekend workshop. She was a generous teacher and astute listener. The participants each told a story and were given extremely helpful feedback. She created a safe, fun and entertaining container for the deep work of the workshop. It was a great opportunity to learn more of the craft from one of the best storytellers.

Thank you to Elizabeth, Katy and Elaine Stanley who worked hard to bring Elizabeth Ellis to Sonoma County!
